Welcome!

We are glad to see you here today!

Please note:  Like a lot of rescues & sanctuaries at this time, we are over full & even have some in foster homes.  We've had good adoptees call that can no longer afford to feed their donkeys, some local feed stores are charging over $20 a bale, many are at $19.50.

We will sell some of our hay to the adopters that can't afford hay, otherwise those 2 donkeys would have to come back to us & add to our overpopulationThere are only so many foster homes available, so that isn't a reliable answer if we do get calls.

Unfortunately, at this time we can not offer sanctuary to anymore donkeys.  Wish we could, but we have to "circle the wagons" for the ones that are our responsibility & under our care.

Hopefully this summer the price of hay will go down considerably, people can once again take care of their animals & we will be able to open our gates to those that need to be here.

Forever Home Donkey Rescue is a private sanctuary and not registered as a 501c3 non-profit organization with the Internal Revenue Service.  We are located in Benson, AZ, which is east of Tucson.  The donkeys, mules and horse that reside here thank you for visiting our web page.

Forever Home Donkey Rescue welcomes volunteers to come out and play with our residents.  Our animals love to be brushed and scratched.  If you live in or near the Benson area and have some time to spare, please contact us about coming out.  Older children are welcome to help groom, but younger kids are encouraged to just look and pet.  Adult supervision please!

If you don't have the time to volunteer, donations are always appreciated.  Since we are a private sanctuary, we do not receive financial help from anyone but our donors.  You can look at this page to see what it costs to care for a donkey.

This is a real nice informative video to help owners or farriers with trimming donkey feet.  Longhopes Donkey Shelter received a grant from the Michele & Agnese Cestone Foundation to put the video together.  Kathy Dean the founder & director of Longhopes is allowing other rescues & sanctuaries to sell the video in order to get it out to anyone that needs it.

If you would like to buy the video, it is $35.00 postpaid

OR

if you have adopted a donkey from us it will be available at a discount price of $20.00 postpaid

It explains how to look at a foot to decide what needs to be done.  It tells about the tools & how they are used.

A lot of little tips to make the job easier are discussed.  There is one section about trimming extremely long feet using a sawz-all & the results 2 months later.

And you will get to see Orion, Kathy's personal donkey, show everyone that getting his feet trimmed wasn't what he had planned for the day.  I didn't think he was very bad at all, but Kathy said he was embarrassing.  But she was willing to let the world see him not be real cooperative, so people would know it doesn't always go smoothly even with one that knows the game plan.
